Kim Bankston: Bio

Kim Bankston born Clarence Bankston to Clarence and Delores Bankston in Miami, Florida on February 15, 1954.

Kim started out as a drummer at the age of 13, along with some close friends they formed a band and played in the Miami area. Kim went on to play the piano at the age of 19, Kim was asked to joined an R&B band named “The Formula Six Band” out of Opalocka, Floriida where Kim played the keyboard and a lead vocalists role. Kim stayed with “The Formula Six Band” for seven years

Kim graduated from Killian Senior High School in 1972 his love for music overcame his first love for baseball however Kim had finally decided in 1984 that his love was for Music.

So, to further his love for music he attended Miami Dade Community College, Fayetteville State University, The Art Institute of Atlanta than “The Music Business Institute” (now currently The Art Institute of Atlanta) in Atlanta, Georgia where he received his degree in recording engineering.

In June of 1988 Kim moved back to Miami where he became the Music Director for Christ the King Catholic Church located in Miami, Florida where Kim directed the choir and played for nine wonderful years.

In August of 1996 Kim left Miami to attend Full Sail Real World Education in Winter Park, Florida where Kim went on to further is education in the recording engineer arena.

Moving back to Miami in 1999 Kim met Andre Vaughn Gibson (a multi-talented recording artist) who invited him to come to Mallorca, Spain to perform with him and The Temptations Revue. Kim toured and preformed internationally with the group from May of 2000 to October of 2000. What a wonderful experience.

In December of 2000 Kim was introduced and joined The New International Platters of which he is also currently a member.

Kim’s career spans over 30 years performing locally, nationally and internationally with Stevie Wonder, The Manhattans, The Miami Sound Machine, L.T.D, Denise Williams, Clarence Carter and Timmy Thomas. His music ranges from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and the 90s. Kim’s style of music is classic oldies, R&B, Motown, bossa nova and jazz, One of Kim's favorite is Brazilian music and sings in Portuguese as well.

Kim Bankston has been thrilling audiences with his unique voice and his ability to perform solo with so many instruments. Kim plays a large variety of instruments including alto sax, saxophone, steel drum, bass guitar, rhythm guitar, marimba vibes, vibra phone, flute, keyboards along with being a talented vocalist singing and playing renditions of Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, Al Green, George Benson, The Doobie Brothers and so many other master pieces leaving audiences wanting more…

Kim Bankston has produced four CDs. “My Love is here for YOU” released in 2003, “Timeless” released in 2004 and “SOJOBIM” released in 2007 and "Forever Gold" released in 2014
